Festival Exhibition: Outer/Body

Our festival exhibition is an opportunity to delve into and experience the theme ‘Outer/Body’ through installation art that probes all the senses. During the festival, seven artists will exhibit their work at Door Open Space—braiding together old and new media, they tell stories that explore the interconnectedness of bodies with technological, ecological, sensory and political systems.

With: Lumus Instruments (Installation), Sissel Marie Tonn (Installation), Amos Peled (Installation), Marco Donnarumma (Installation), Roel Heremans (Installation), Hedwich Rooks (Installation), Dani Ploeger (Installation)

Sissel Marie Tonn’s ‘The Sentinel Self’ is an interactive artwork that explores concerns about microplastics and their impact on both ecologies and our own immune systems. Marco Donnarumma's hybrid short film, ‘Niranthea’ is a poetic reflection on unlearning normative views of deafness and technology. ‘Polynode VII’ by Amsterdam-based Lumus Instruments is a large-scale light and sound installation immerses visitors in an enchanting play of light, probing the outer limits of our human sensory perception. ‘PetrifiCāre’ by Hedwich Rooks is a new work that invites us to consider ‘care’ for coal and fellow earth materials.

With ‘Neuroright Arcades’ Roel Heremans’ hopes to evoke a visceral reaction that makes tangible the need for protection from future neuro-technology, through a series of five interactive installations. Dani Ploeger's sculpture, ‘Our Values’, reveals the cruelty and violence underpinning the corporatisation of European border control. Last but not least, the video sculpture ‘Phantom Limb’ by Amos Peled transforms an ultrasound machine into an instrument that illuminates the inside of the body, expanding the space of the artistic act beneath the skin, into the organs.
