Yolanda Uriz (Talk)

Fri 31 May | de Brakke Grond

In this talk, Yolanda Uriz will use her practice as a thread to speak about olfactory narratives—i.e. narratives related to our sense of smell. After an introduction to the neuroscience of smell, she will delve into the concept of olfactory communication and how it provides an alternative approach to processing information. Since our sense of smell is closely linked to our memory and emotions, making use of it can enhance our ability to empathize, communicate, and understand other humans, other species, and the physical environment. Moreover, it is a medium that still remains beyond the reach of digital control and data extraction by surveillance technologies..
