Lou Drago (Talk & Performance)

Sat Jun 1 | de Brakke Grond

With an ever accelerating technological society, political and economic inequality and the extraction of value through (hidden) labour, bodies and senses are under constant pressure. Artists, musicians and activists are practising the creation of temporary spaces of resistance, escape and personal care. What artistic and embodied ways are there to deal with the asymmetric powers that impact, and hurt, various bodies?

Artist Lou Drago believes in the transformative potential of sound and the importance of deep listening. Whether that is listening to each other, our needs or to the sounds around us. Working across various mediums, they draw connections between the healing potential of sound, the necessity for collectivity and solidarity during neoliberal times, queer-feminisms, and meditation and related theories. Drago will be joining a panel discussion during the context program. They will also host a guided (sound) meditation/visualisation exercise during the morning.

About the artist

Drago is a researcher, artist, writer and sound practitioner. In their music they often explore the sonic landscapes of the in-between; inviting everyone to a deep dialogue with the listening body-mind through the use of ambient, experimental and drone music. Since 2017 their Cashmere Radio show, transience, hosts guest artists to create moments for introspection and anxiety relief. Together with marum, they curate and host  the long-durational listening event infinity rug. As a founding member of XenoEntities Network (Berlin), a collective who operated from 2016 - 2020, they focused on research about queer, gender and feminist studies and their interactions with digital technologies. They have hosted listening~occasions and spoken on panels across Europe and internationally.
