Casimir Geelhoed (live)

How can air be controlled and used in a new way within traditional organ music? Rotterdam-based musician and composer Casimir Geelhoed breathes new life into two organs in the Orgelpark. For this he uses the hyperorgan, electronics, self-developed software and spatial sound. After a residency commissioned by FIBER and the Orgelpark, he developed the piece “Deviations”, which will be premiered at the opening concert.

“Deviations” consists of intricate sonic landscapes that will gradually unravel, drifting, disintegrating, and diverging from their starting points. Geelhoed's fascination about the fragile balance between stability and instability is explored in various ways: from subtle textural transformations to chaotic movements, from fading harmonies to large shifts of heavy sound structures taking over the former church. Be ready to sharpen your listening and submit to this bodily experience.

About the artist

Casimir Geelhoed is an electronic musician, composer and software developer who explores expressive relationships between software and sound. Recurring themes in his musical work are overstimulation, introspection, and fragility. Often making use of self-developed software, he is interested in the poetic potential of sound material transformed through digital means. Geelhoed has created performances and installations for various festivals, including CTM, Rewire, FIBER Festival, SPATIAL, and Aural Spaces. Labels including Janushoved and Posh Isolation have released his music.

This artist is playing at the opening concert Organ/Body on Wednesday May 29, 20:15.

Casimir Geelhoed will play Deviation live on the hyperorgan. The piece combines hyperorgan and live processing, breathing new life into an old instrument, accompanied by a 12-channel 4DSOUND system. We kindly thank Orgelpark and 4DSOUND for their support. Deviations is commissioned by FIBER and Orgelpark.
